Prudential wanted an intimate but exciting way of communicating with customers, so Downstream created a coffee table with a twist—the Interactive Coffee Table. Visitors can navigate floor plans, see and edit their agenda for the visit, and browse images and info about Prudentials history in a technologically advanced multiuser environment. Our programmers used actionscript 3 on the Adobe Air runtime, the puremvc framework to keep the code well structured, and papervision3d for various 3D effects in the application.
Every home should have one! This is my mechanical walking coffee table. These are it’s first steps in our living room. It was kind of inspired by ‘The Luggage’ from Terry Pratchett’s book The Colour of Magic that was dramatised by the BBC last year. It has an Oak top attached to a steel frame. It is moved by a pair of old electric wheelchair motors via cranks and rods. The legs were Laser Cut by my friend Dave Connaway from Cirrus Laser our of Aluminium. There is more detail of the mechanism in a couple of the other videos – if you’re interested. The table can be moved via a ‘finger joystick’ just visible in the corner as well as radio control (supplied by RF Solutions Ltd). I’ll be taking the table along with a few other electrical gizmos to the Maker Faire in Newcastle Upon Tyne (England) on March 13/14 2010 if you’d like a closer look (or a drive). It makes me smile!

The couches are brand new as well as the coffee table. Just bought them a month ago. Paid 00 for the couches which all but one of the seats recline and I paid 0 for the coffee table which has a platform that conveniently rises above your lap to eat without bending forward!
